Five Arrows Hotel is conveniently located near the gates of Waddesdon Manor. The hotel is easy to find, and the car park is clearly signposted. We opted for a room, dine, and breakfast package priced at £289 for two.
Our twin room was light and airy with a high ceiling. Most importantly it was clean and well stocked with tea, coffee, and bottles of water. Fluffy towels and White Company toiletries were provided in the en-suite bathroom. As it was a hot evening the window had to be left open and the road noise disturbed my friend a bit.
We started our evening with G&Ts in the beautiful garden. The bar is well stocked with quality spirits and a good range of gin was available. On the recommendation of the friendly staff member, we tried The Botanist with a Fever-Tree elderflower tonic which was deliciously moreish.
We booked our table early and had a quick nosy around the restaurant which is split into three or four areas. The private dining room was very pretty and if I was going back with my husband I would definitely book this. We noticed that we were the only non-couple dining that evening.
Although the starters looked great, we both opted to try a small plate instead, the Quail Scotch Egg seemed too good to pass up. It was nice, but, I’m not sure if I would have it again, especially as I saw a Pint of Prawns being carried to another table.
For mains, my companion had the guinea fowl, which she said was soft and tender whilst I tucked into a steak washed down with a glass of Malbec. I couldn’t resist the lure of triple cooked chips. The restaurant was a getting a little hot by this point. I finished with a Lemon Posset which was nicely presented, fresh and summery. I liked the addition of the lemon zest and thin pieces of meringue.
We spent the remainder of the evening drinking gin in the courtyard and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.
The following morning, we returned to the restaurant for breakfast. There was a good selection of pastries, fresh fruit, and cereals. Juice and water were provided. We asked for a pot of coffee and opted to pay a surcharge to have smoked salmon and scrambled eggs. This was average at best and not worth paying the extra for. The café at my local garden centre does this better at a fraction of the cost. We asked for toast but this never arrived at our table.
Five Arrows is a great place to stay and we had a relaxed visit there. Our room had everything we could have asked for. The food was great in the evening but breakfast could have been better. On a return visit, I’d play it safe and stick with a full English breakfast.
