Oliver’s Island – Golden Ale – Fullers 2.5/5

During a recent business trip to the capital I visited the Hung, Drawn and Quartered pub just down the road from the Tower of London. This is a Fullers brewery pub and serves city workers and visitors alike.  The Hung, Drawn and Quartered server a number of hand drawn ales and first on my list was Oliver’s Island. I’ve never tried Oliver’s Island before but I have been told it’s very refreshing.

This is a citrus based ale. Strong Orange, grapefruit and lemon flavours are first to hit the tastebuds followed by mild hops and a little butter.

This is sold as a golden ale and that’s immediately evident. Checkout the photos. This has a light foamy head that stays for the drinking.

They say this ale that takes inspiration from local landmarks on the Thames. It’s a nice London ale but it’s not a session drink and I found that I was in the mood for something different. Even being a hot day I found the citrus flavour was not to my taste. Perhaps something for another time.

My second pint was another fullers Ale. Seafarers. The review for Seafarers will be published next week.
