Bacchus Framboise Raspberry Beer – 4.5/5

I notice Bacchus Framboise Raspberry Beer in the beer section of my local sainsburys a raspberri based beer. Time for something completely different.

Bacchus Framboise Raspberry Beer and is a beer blend based on Flemish Old Brown Belgian beer and 12.5% raspberries.

You know from the moment you pick this up it will be slightly different. Rather than a printed bottle this is overwrapped with paper branding and crimped. The bottle itself is unbranded and looks a little like home brew.

This is clear from the moment you open the bottle. The strong smell of raspberries immediately hits your nose and gets you interested.

This is a deep brown drink with a redness to it that gives it a rich depth. Very pleasing to the eye.

Upon siping you get an overwhelming taste of fresh raspberries that remind you a little of alcopops. Don’t let this make you think I’m knocking it. Quite the contrary. This is a really nice drink that makes you want more. It’s not overly sweet but does have a lasting sweetness. I assume that this is from the raspberries. The drink does not taste artificial and disappears faster than you would like. Mainly because it’s so nice and MrsWK keeps drinking it.

Both MrsWK and MrWK really enjoyed this drink and will most likely have a few ready to go. I think it’s one I’ll keep near the fridge but not in it. I don’t want to be tempted.

All I have to do is find a place to hide some so MrsWK does not steal it.

If you like Alcopops you will like this. However beer drinkers should not overlook it. It’s not something I would drink daily or weekly but it’s something I’m glad I tried.
