Hatherwood Golden Goose – Lidl No 1 (3.5/5)

This is another in the Hatherwood A.K.A. Lidl branded range of alcoholic beers.

No1 in the series is sold as a golden ale.  No strong flavours or odours here.

Light amber colour. Slight citrus taste and smell with an ever so slightly bitter after taste that changes to caramel.  Good long lasting head when poured properly.

Feels a little over gassy however not overly so.  It’s easily polished by myself before going flat.

This is not a ale for people that like hops or strong flavour drinks. Think of this as the Budweiser of Ales. Nothing really to write home about but not something that would make you complain. I’d not hesitate to have a few of these in the beer fridge in case guests come around. Also If you are new to ales or don’t like full bodied ales this may be something you should try.

This is an interesting beer. On it’s own I’d probably not rate it above 3/5. However when price is taken into account you cannot get away from the fact that this is a pleasant beer at 89p for 500ml.

Throw a load of these in a bucket for a BBQ and nobody will complain.

Due to price I’m giving this one 3.5/5.
